Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a combined operation targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory used by the IS group, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.
The site, located using surveillance, was believed to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was located in hills just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a several entry passages down to the facility... preliminary assessments are that the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any harm to civilians in the strike on Saturday evening and each participating jet made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.

RAF aircraft have performed patrols over Syria to "prevent any attempted comeback" of IS following its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to every member of the UK armed forces who took part in this mission for their professionalism and their courage," he added. This action, to eliminate terrorist threats who pose a risk to our safety, highlights how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, protecting the UK domestically and influential overseas."
