As any major prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry for introducing fresh award types to recognize unsung work and fill the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
